Lea Nikel Foundation
Following Lea Nikel’s passing in 2005, the Lea Nikel Foundation was established to promote the preservation and dissemination of her artistic legacy.

The Foundation is dedicated to supporting projects that assist children in need, particularly those battling illness. In her will, Nikel directed that part of her bequest be allocated to the creation of a fund to support children facing illness. The Estate chose to continue her connection with the Safra Children’s Hospital at Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer, by funding artistic enrichment activities for children undergoing cancer treatment.

A meaningful and enduring bond developed between Nikel—recipient of the Israel Prize for Art and widely regarded as the “First Lady of Israeli Painting”—and the children at the Edmond and Lily Safra Children’s Hospital. This connection began in early 2005 through the Dori family and grew into an ongoing relationship.
Nikel’s desire to contribute to the well-being of these children led to her donation of a painting to the hospital, which sparked a meeting with Prof. Gideon Rechavi, then head of the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Department (and now the head of the Sheba Cancer Research Center). Their conversation evolved into a deep friendship, inspiring Nikel to donate three additional works, which continue to enrich the hospital’s walls today.

The Foundation continues to support art workshops for children in the Pediatric Hemato-Oncology Department at Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer.
